At what age should the pacifier be taken away and who should do it?


I personally think it should be taken away as soon as the child begins to walk and it needs to be the parents who do it. The father specifically.

somewhere between 1 and 2. i hate seeing a child talking with a pacifier in her/his mouth. i had a tough time with my last girl. i finally decided it was going and if she had to cry it out, she had to cry it out. it did take some crying but she and i both survived.

Some chick I know is shipping her kid off to her sister so someone else can take the pacifier away.


I find that disgusting.

I used my thumb. My mother told me I was going to have buck teeth lol I swear to god, I sucked my thumb til I was like 10. I remember forcing myself to fall asleep without it.

The paci is more for the parent's sanity, than the child. lol But it's got to go before 2. If the child can ask for their paci, then they don't need it lol

Personally, I think it should be weened off at the same time as the bottle, or sooner. That just makes sense to me to remove them at the same time. Then again, I haven't raised any children.

Bottles should also be removed as soon as the child starts to walk.

i was a thumb sucker too. i did it way too long. i quit when a dentist told me i was going to have buck teeth. now you know i was too old if i understood that and finally quit.

what dr.say is bottle 1yr. poty trained by two and binkies.pacifiers..they say they 'll stop when ready mine didn't till he was almost three maybe even after..shoot i got tired of byeing them so i stop and the last one he threw out that was it was all over..till this very day when he sleeps i touch his lips he moves them like he was still sucking on them..lmao.cutiest thing ever.i giggle everytime..sooo..i say as long as it don't kill them let it be..cuz like nighty said thumbs takes the place..lol..my opoin.:}and my son has perfect teeth..

Actually neither my nephew of my niece has ever has a pacifier and neither one sucks their thumb.



Parents need to find something else that soothes them instead of allowing them to stuff things in their mouth.

Sucking on your thumb for years really does mess up your teeth. It doesn't necessarily make them buck teeth, because that would imply that they grow bigger as well. But all of your front teeth get pushed outward. Good friend of mine when I was younger sucked her thumb till she was in high school. Hell, she probably still does it. Her teeth are like that.

4 months because it causes speech problems. By 4 months they are spiting it across the room anyways.
