Hey all,
Webdate is a great place to meet people, yet one always has to be on alert for the sort of stupid messages that are being sent by scammers. Please see the following

"What’s the day been like today?i am Linda Nelson, i
am 30 years of age,i am originally british but
currently living in florida, I hate to say this now
but,i will just go straight to the point. I am in
serious trouble, and I pray you can help me out of
this. Sometime ago, i got an email that i won a lottery
i was told to come in person and claim my funds ,then i
was asked to travel to Africa to collect my funds.on
getting here i got to find out it was all a lie the man
i met here was not the same man in the photos that was
sent to me. He took me somewhere and robbed, he even
tried to kill me By Gods grace, I escaped and I ran out
on him, but I did not know what to do next. I lodged
into a hotel for some time while I thought of what to
do. Now, I owe the hotel where I stay bill for 2 weeks,
and the hotel manager has seized my passport. If I
don't pay up the bill, I can’t get out of here.I am
stranded here now. please contact me at
lindanelson77@yahoo.com, Please don't blame or judge me
yet i thought it was all real, here is the hotel
manager's number +23418741249 when you call please ask
for linda Nelson the tall white lady in room 203.i will
explain everything when i hear from you.this is the
only way i can contact anyone, waiting on your
response

Can you believe the nerve of the person who sent this shallow insipidly stupid
message to me. maybe they figure us older guys are a good mark, cause we dont git it regular (carnal stuff) and are easy marks to pull off a stunt like the one above, I did report it,yet I wonder just what does webdate do to these acorns? Anyone else with some of the same problems?
Geesh I wish life wasnt so full of crapholes waiting in the shadows to pounce on unsuspecting folks who are looking for a good relationship, just to make a buck. They must be former Enron employees, the sort of yuppie aholes who laugh at an old women freezing to death with no heating money to spend.
Ok done ranting, guess I am just tired of this scene.

That was an interesting story there.

You assume the worst of this person and label it as a scam.

Most likely, it could be a scam, but who cares?

You can simply report it to Webdate and move on.

Webdate is a free service and relies on their members to report potential scammers.

There are ways to avoid being a victim of such a message.

You can adjust the filtering methods in the settings.

That's all I could possibly suggest.

As long as you use common sense, you should be fine.

Good luck!

Hey guys, I may be the lucky one here, I have not been getting messages like that whatsoever.

If I may strongly suggest, try tweaking the settings in your profile to filter out people who can contact you.

For example, set a range for an age limit (among other things).

The recent upgrade of Webdate has added some good extras for us to tweak.

I've had a couple of them and they are sooooo transparent. Personally I like to lead them into thinking they have a chance then drop the hammer on 'em. I just think it's fun to fuck with 'em.

I haven't gotten one on here like that yet but I get them all the time in my regular e-mail. I usually spam them or just delete them. They are definitely a scam. They are a dime a dozen. Some of them aren't where they say they are from but maybe say they are from Africa or England but are actually in New Jersey. This did actually happen.None of what they say is true either. They just want you to send them money and promise to pay you back. The Key is that you are giving them you checking account number as well and they have no intention of reimbursing anyone or rewarding you at all. There are Web site that you can report them to but it would be to timely to report each one.On here , I think you need to send the webmaster an e-mail of this.

Once I got something in my regular mail that said take it an deposit it right away , It was a large sum of money and I think it was called the world lottery or something like that.I took it to my bank and they called the FBI who said they were currently doing an investigation on this particular scam that had been a rage across the country, The bank kept the Check and letter and were prompted to send it to the FBI. The Bank said that several other people had gotten a similar letter that day.

I didn't actually think it was legit, That's why I asked the bank to check it out. But if they had they would have drained my account for sure and maybe stolen my identity.

I met a woman who said she knew GOD meant for her to be my wife.

She had a check, but no ID; she said if I could deposit a certified check, and wire her the cash, she would be here.

I did not see how I could lose?

I could meet a pretty woman for free, if it did not work out, I still would have done her a favor helping her get to Hawaii; it was her idea to come.

It seemed like she would at least see me as a nice guy, and as a friend.

Or something better.

Thank GOD I knew the teller, she asked me if I got the check from an online source.

I thought I was street wise, now I'm wiser.

I just got a new one in my e-mail entitled "Conatct Fedex Delivery Company for your Box". (well the sender had a typo * Contact)
The contents of the letter ..(Copied and pasted from my mail)

Hello My Dear,

I have paid the fee for your Cheque Draft. but the manager of Eko Bank Benin told me that before the check will get to you that it will expire. So I told him to cash $1.2million us dollar all the necessary arrangement of delivering the $1.2million in cash was made with FEDEX DELIVERY COURIER COMPANY.This is the informations they need to delivery your package to you. with FEDEX DELIVERY COURIER COMPANY, contact them now.
Then instructions to contact an individual, and the adress, e-mail, Fax and phone number of the person.at the Fedex Company.

At the bottom it tells me all I have to do is give my Name, address,Phone number, Country and Nearest Airport.
I'm thinking Sarcastically..(Well that about narrows it down , I'm convinced you must know who I am and I have really been sought out chosen. How much luckier can I get?)
Then at the very bottom....

The only money you have to pay them to receive your Consignment Box to your door step is $145.00 for their Security keeping fee, Please make sure you send this needed informations to the Director General of FEDEX DELIVERY COURIER COMPANY BENIN REPUBLIC
some more mumbo Jumbo then..

if its not that type then they say they live in an area near you and reply but after a few emails they say they are in South Africa , moms sick. etc....
these scammers are acually guys posing as women and no matter what they say only thing that is true is they want you to send money.
currently the US government can not prossicute these people because they are in a country that has no law against this practice and they wont extridite them for it.
