I can't speak for all women over 48; but I disagree - we are not unhappy or sad; we are just tired of putting up with crap. I am extremely happy now that I'm divorced. There are times I would like to share my life with someone special; but I don't rely on another person to bring me happiness. If I feel like listening to the radio - I can! If there is something on TV I want to watch - I can! If I want to read a romance novel - I can! If I feel like going out of town - I can! There is no-one to tell me what I can and can't do. Life is too short to be unhappy and sad. You cannot expect another person to bring you happiness - it has to comes from within.

Welcome to the Short Attention Span Theater

I don't know about men being more secure or settled. I've been single for a while, I have two boys at home plus I work full time and attend school for the past 2 1/2 yrs and take care of myself and my kids. Lets see a man do that. Not many can. And for us looking for younger men, some women are just like some men do. We all have our preference. Myself, they have to be closer to my age! few years younger or older. I do agree life is all about choices.

I am a professional dog trainer, and train service dogs.

I don't really want a younger woman.
We would not have much in common.

But, I have noticed that alot of women my age are going through menopause, and they scare me.

I lost my best friend, and girlfriend of two years, because of her mood swings on experimental hormone medicines.

I got a three year restraining order on her, it broke my heart.

It takes alot of evidence for a 6 foot man, to get a 3 year restraining order, on a woman that is 80 pounds lighter than him!

I would probably feel more secure in a relationship with a woman who has gone through menopause already.

I've pretty much been happy at every age I've been. I think the real key to happiness is understanding who and what you are. Once you know yourself the rest is easy. If you're a negative person, chances are you won't be very happy, unless negativity makes you happy of course. Learning to roll with life's punches and being able to keep your eye on what is most important to you will generally give you a lifetime of happiness.

It seems a lot of people are so concerned about what other people think of them. When you feel this concern ask yourself this question; will any of these people come to my funeral? Probably not so who gives a rip what they think? Even in your own family, if you feel uncomfortable there is a reason for it. Find out what it is so you keep from interfering with you keeping your eye on what is most important to you.

Remember "compromise" is just another way of saying "what is most important to me is not all that important." Do you believe that?

Yes, you are right I'm a miserable whatever. I do love to shop. It is fun to put on a new dress or underwear and feel good. As for all women. I know all women aren't miserable. I have some friends that are very happy. Heck, I hate the single life but, I seem to be stuck in it. Time has gone fast while I'm stuck in no where land. By being totally at peace with who you are. Once that happens the entire world and everything in it takes on a different meaning.

By totally at peace, I mean satisfied with your physical, mental and emotional being ... no regrets about the past, no living in the past and no playing "what if". When you are totally at peace then happiness is in everything your five senses encounter and your heart is totally free to experience true happiness.

It is true, happiness does not COME from another, but it can INCLUDE another.
