Hey WebDaters... This is your friendly ranting collie, Blayze. I was looking around the forums and noticed there wasn't any place to post a rant (or I overlooked it due to not looking very carefully) so I decided to start a thread specially for that! Got something to bitch about? Post it here! Mad at someone? Tell them how you feel here! I'll start one, because there's something that's been bugging me lately anyway...
I am not a spiritual person. At all.
I love science. If you can't at least begin to explain something with science, then it's opinion, perception or bullshit... or all three. Even things science can't explain yet are still scientifically explainable... we just don't know how to yet. If the entire world believes something is truth and it's discovered to be untrue 100 years later, then it was never true, even when people believed it. What people "feel" is irrelevant. Deja Vu is not a premonition or a memory of the exact event from another dimension, no matter how much you "feel" it is. It's a glitch in your brain, telling you that you've been here before when you really haven't. A soul? No. Just a collection of memories that "feels" like it amounts to something more.
Everyone can directly experience the things that are explained by science. Things that can only be explained by belief... only one person can percieve. Jill believes that she's an alien visitor. No one else can touch, smell, taste, hear, or see this. Only Jill. This is a belief. Joe can hit Jill upside the head with a bat for being a bloody moron. Joe, Jill and anyone in the world could touch, smell taste, hear or see this. This is science.
This is the way the world works. We are imaginative beings. Parts of our world are imagined and others are not... and a lot of the time, we can't tell the difference. Science is the tool by which we differentiate the two.
Except for one thing.
There is one thing out there that science cannot and will not be able to explain. But at the same time, it's something everyone in the world experiences every day. Science will never be able to even measure the existence of it... yet every living creature is so familiar with it, life simply wouldn't be life without it. For all my reasons not to believe in a God, an afterlife or a soul, this is the single reason I can think of that actually persuades me to believe these things might indeed exist...
That is our individuality.
I'm not you. You're not Bob. Bob isn't Claus. Everyone has a body to live in and memories they experience. But why do YOU have the body and memories you have? Why couldn't it have been someone else? If you died and then a perfect copy of you was cloned... would YOU still be inside you? If so... what if you were cloned and did not die? Would you perceive life from two beings at once?
Everyone experiences the perception of being contained in one body and one mind. This cannot even register on a scientific basis, yet here it is, for all of us, every day. What process decided that my own perception of life would be within the mind that it is, and not a different one... or even none at all? Why, of all the billions on the planet, am I in "possession" of the mind and body that I have? And... the big puzzle... if everyone has a mind and body, but I percieve life through only one of them, could that perception be something *seperate* from mind and body? If it were the same, I would perceive life through all of the minds and bodies at once. Hmmmm...
Does this mean that God is the absence of perception?
That should give you something to think about. And while you do, I'm going to go shovel microwave popcorn into my facehole like a fat kid.
This is Blayze, The Ranting Collie, and that's all I have to say about that.
